Sonali was born and raised in Mumbai, India.  She received her bachelor’s degree from Middlebury College in Vermont and her master’s degree from Columbia University’s School of Social Work in New York. She is a licensed independent clinical social worker in the State of New Hampshire and a licensed clinical social worker in the State of New York. In addition to working in her private practice, she is an adjunct faculty member at Plymouth State University in Plymouth, NH and SocialWork@Simmons, Simmons School of Social Work’s online MSW program.

Sonali’s professional experience includes:

  • Adjunct Lecturer at Columbia University’s School of Social Work;
  • Providing psychotherapy to adolescents, adults, and couples in her New York City psychotherapy practice;
  • Providing psychotherapy to adults with epilepsy and their families at the Epilepsy Foundation of Metropolitan New York;
  • Developing components of a parent support program for parents of children with epilepsy at the Epilepsy Foundation of Metropolitan New York;
  • Supervising mental health clinicians at the Interborough Developmental & Consultation Center, a community mental health clinic, in Brooklyn, NY;
  • Providing psychotherapy to adults in the Outpatient Psychiatric Clinic at Bellevue Hospital in New York City, the oldest continuously operating hospital in the United States;
  • Providing psychotherapy to adults, adolescents, and children at New Alternatives for Children, an agency dedicated to working with medically and developmentally fragile children and their families in New York City;
  • Educating parents about their child’s illness or disability, helping parents hone parenting skills, advocating for improved access to educational placements, and coordinating services and treatment for the families at New Alternatives for Children;
  • Developing and running an Applied Behavioral Analysis program at one of India’s premier agencies working with children with developmental disabilities, the Ummeed Child Development Center in Mumbai, India;
  • Launching and leading a program that instructed parents on how to use ABA principles with their children;
  • Providing one-on-one Applied Behavioral Analysis instruction to children with autism spectrum disorders at the renowned May Institute in Boston;
  • Providing supportive counseling to families of children diagnosed with cancer at the Ronald McDonald House in Paris, France.
